Dreams of Joy: A Novel By Lisa See [Sarah, East Coast Bays Library]

Dreams of Joy is the sequal to Shanghai Girls and revisits the lives of sisters May, Pearl and her daughter Joy. Pearl returns to China to find Joy has fled America and has embraced the Communist way. The time is 1957 and the devastating effects of the Cultural Revolution are graphically described. This is a well researched book and, together with the story of the family, their relationships, and the accurate portrayal of China at this time makes this book an absorbing read.
